Pop Singer Out of Hospital After Miami Jet Ski Crash

Sean Kingston has been released from a hospital several weeks after his Memorial Day jet-ski crash left him in intensive care. Kingston had reportedly been operating the watercraft recklessly when he lost control and crashed into a bridge, injuring himself and a female passenger. Kingston suffered a broken jaw, a fractured wrist and water in his lungs. His passenger escaped the boating accident with minor injuries after a short hospital stay.

The 21-year-old “Beautiful Girls” singer was piloting a Sea-Doo with passenger Cassandra Sanchez around 6 p.m. on May 29, 2011. Kingston crashed the watercraft into the Palm Island Bridge, which connects the MacArthur Causeway to Palm and Hibiscus Islands.  An off-duty member of the U.S. Coast Guard, John Rivera, was on a boat near the bridge and saw Kingston under water after the accident. Rivera said Kingston was throwing up salt water and blood as he kept the two of them afloat until help arrived.

Although alcohol was ruled out as a factor in the crash, Kingston’s reckless operation of the watercraft was likely the cause, as his passenger said they were traveling “really fast.”

Cassandra Sanchez, who suffered a sore jaw and ribs, recalled that as the pair was approaching the bridge she screamed, “We can’t fit under there. Are we going to try and go under there? Sean stop!” Although Kingston did attempt to steer clear of the bridge, the vehicle was traveling too fast and Kingston lost control.
